Structural Integration works with the basic premise that there is a direct connection between your life experience and your body. One way to understand Rolfing® is to see it as a way of releasing patterns that get habitually reinforced in your body: postural patterns, injury patterns, emotional patterns, the general way you move through the world and inhabit your body.
Through the use of body-work, postural analysis, and movement re-education these patterns become less and less stuck, less and less the only way things are. As you begin to find new options for holding yourself upright and moving about, there is a potential for changes and new choices that echo throughout your entire system.
Structural Integration uses the medium of the connective tissue body, the fascia. This unique body tissue is the main organ of form that is responsible for maintaining your body's unique relationship to gravity. It creates relationships between and within the major segments of your body: the head, torso, pelvis, legs and arms. And it has a unique property of plasticity. You can change your body, there are new possibilities for being, and Structural Integration helps you to create that space and to make it a reality.
Structural Integration is about more than connective tissue, it is about the entirety of connection.
